Our New Place

We are very happy with our new place. It has good Feng Shui. It has a high cieling and it's on the fourth floor with a balcony that faces west so we get the sea breeze all day and stunning sunsets at night...and perhaps best of all, it has a real fire place! Here are pictures of our first night there.

The First Sunset

Notice that we have a view of the temple as well.

Funny Chatter

I recently watched a documentary on astro-physics and the origin and destiny of the universe. One of the distinguished scientists said that understanding the origin and predicting the demise of the universe is actually quite simple, it being purely a matter of mathematics. When compared to achieving that same level of understanding about his son, however, the variables are too complex and interrelated and unknowable. Will his son become a physicist, a musician? What will he choose to do with his life...?

I'm not generally willing to give scientists much credit for having figured anything out that is really important. The so-called "soft sciences" of psychology, sociology, etc. are only soft because the minds of the scientists are soft.

The following conversation between my two daughters, video taped without their knowledge, reveals the playfulness of the human mind and human interaction. While to them nothing in the conversation seemed random, to a scientists it would be a hopeless task to attempt to explain why they say what they say and to predict what they will say next. What we see here is free will at play. It is understood through experience but it cannot be explained. It makes me laugh and that is all I need to "know".

The Tree

It's really beautiful isn't it? I'm not thrilled with our apartment because it's so old and doesn't get any sun. It smells funny and has bad feng-shui but the park and surrounding areas have many truly stunning trees. Some of the best are of Australian origin like the bottle-brush and the ever inspiring slender and sleek eucalyptus.

Bike Parade

Candy Cannon

We're back online!

Dear All,

We've undergone some major changes and although there are now fewer of us, there are still Sabeys by the sea enjoying and learning from life. I don't know how many people followed our blog but in case you did and you've missed it, I'm happy to announce that it's back. I will do my best to post pictures and videos of the girls and maybe write a post or two. Feel free to pass along the link to anyone who might be interested.

In this, the inaugural post of the remodeled blog, I would like to share a quote from President Kimball, a portion of which, was displayed as a footer on the original blog:

"Is there not wisdom in his giving us trials that we might rise above them, responsibilities that we might achieve, work to harden our muscles, sorrows to try our souls? Are we not exposed to temptations to test our strength, sickness that we might learn patience, death that we might be immortalized and glorified? If all the sick for whom we pray were healed, if all the righteous were protected and the wicked destroyed, the whole program of the Father would be annulled and the basic principle of the gospel, free agency, would be ended. No man would have to live by faith. If joy and peace and rewards were instantaneously given the doer of good, there could be no evil--all would do good but not because of the rightness of doing good. There would be no test of strength, no development of character, no growth of powers, no free agency...

No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility. All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God...and it is through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we come here to acquire and which will make us more like our Father and Mother in heaven."
