Chloe's MLK Day artwork

I posted this on FB but here I feel like I can brag a little more... Chloe spontaneously created this today in less than 30 minutes while also watching "Barbie and the Three Musketeers". She called it "a Portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. Giving His Famous Speech". It really looks like him doesn't it? I know I'm biased but I think it's pretty impressive. She drew it from memory. She created a few separate drawings then cut them out and assembled them with a nice layering effect. I think there is a definite pathos and optimism in the face. The figure is turned slightly, a feature that she included purposely and was particularly pleased with, as she pointed out to me. (I don't think that's typical of children's drawings.) As a result the figure seems to be looking off into the distance, or perhaps the future... The authentic period-style microphone is a nice touch, placing the scene within the appropriate time and place. Finally, the almost perfect circle on the cheek (drawn free-hand) adds an ambiguously cheerful touch. (...like I said...I'm biased...)

  1. Oh I almost forgot...After creating this piece, she built a museum (a blanket tent) in which she enshrined the picture along with MLK's desk (a tv dinner table with some papers on it), his nobel peace prize (a penny taped to a wrist band) and a brochure placed at the entrance.

  2. That is beyond impressive--honestly, that is something else for someone her age. Please tell her I loved seeing her fabulous photo!

  3. Love it. And although you might be biased, you have good reason. The girl's got talent.
